Budapest, Hungary

It was strange to be the only local without a political agenda at the old Commie memorial that towers over Budapest. Theoretically, it's called a statute of liberty, but the liberty it heralds was at best liberty for some that came at the cost of the repression of innocent millions. Today, it's a preferred clashing ground for morons both extreme-right and extreme-left.

They should stop fighting and take photos. It's one of the most beautiful spots with a brilliant view on the whole town, especially around nightfall. The first building to go glowing tungsten reddish (I am told it's more yellowish - I'm colourblind, so there) is St Stephen's basilica in the middle, and for about ten minutes, it is the sole bright spot in a sea of falling darkness.
